Smartphone Internal storage and external storage is a hardware to store smartphone's data or files, each smartphone has different internal storage capacities, but all of the storage definitely has a storage limit and will be full when you continue to use your smartphone to download, browsing, using social media app, using messenger app, using the camera, etc.
Data and files on the storage android smartphone tend to increase, and even some applications will download and store data files (cache, images, photos, videos, thumbnails, ads file, etc) in the background.
Full memory problems usually occur frequently in a smartphone that has small internal memory (under 4 GB), when the storage is full, the smartphone can no longer save files such as application data, photos, videos or other files. Full memory problems would be very annoying especially when we can't use the smartphone to an important moment.
Generally, Android users will use the android app cleaner to clean the cache, obsolete applications, and other junk files, the cleaner application is sufficiently effective cleaning junk files.
But what if you're already using apps cleaner and memory storage capacity is full?
Are you going to remove more applications or important files?
Before you do that, you should read some tips to deal with a full memory on the android smartphone :
1. Backup files to a computer
You can use the data cable to transfer files to your computer, then delete unneeded files in the smartphone manually or using a cleaner app.
2. Use the cleaner app
As I have explained above, the cleaner application is an application that works to clean up junk files, unused applications, duplicate photos, duplicate videos, and so on.
But I suggest you be careful when deleting files to prevent important files from being deleted.
You can download a good and safe cleaner application in Google PlayStore, use the search box and type in "cleaner", most of the app is free, you should download an application that has a good rating (4 stars plus) and has the positive reviews from users.
3. Disable any applications that are rarely used
You can remove applications that are not used, but when all the application is important and you do not want to delete it, you can disable it, you can reenable it when the application will be used again.
This method is useful to save RAM, accelerate mobile performance, better battery saving, as well as to prevent the apps for updates or auto download/upload the files.
Disable / enable applications are typically available on Android Jelly Bean to the latest version.
How to disable applications:
a. Open the Settings - Applications - All - Select an application that you want to disable
b. Choose Disable (nonactive or freeze), do not press the "clear the data" because it will make the application back to the original setting and you may be prompted to log in and download the application data again.
c. Each android smartphone may have different settings and different ways to disable the application, you can googling information about how to disable applications that conform to your smartphone type.
Some android smartphone, especially ICS and earlier versions, generally do not have a feature to disable the application. To freeze/disable apps on the android smartphone, android users typically installs "freeze application" on google PlayStore, but this application is only for rooted smartphones.
Do not root smartphone unless you can recover brick smartphone.
If you want to root your android, please googling additional information about the root android smartphone that fits your smartphone type.
4. Disable the automatic update and automatic download
PlayStore app, social media app, and chat app sometimes set to automatically download files, chat app default setting may automatically download image/videos that received, besides that, cloud applications will also automatically sync files to and from the smartphone.
My advice is you should only update / download applications or files needed, you can also turn off automatic sync.
The purpose of this method is to prevent unwanted new file increases, it is also useful for saving battery, save RAM / accelerates performance, saves internet quota and speed up your smartphone internet data connection.
How to disable automatic updates in PlayStore:
a. Open the PlayStore app
b. press the left menu (next to the writing google play),
c. select settings
d. select the auto-update apps
e. select the option "Do not auto-update apps"
f. done
How to disable the automatic download chat applications (examples):
a. Open a chat application
b. Open the app settings
c. Search options about automatic download pictures / video, when the option is enabled, you can disable it.
Some applications may have different settings on automatic updates, please explore in the app settings menu to disable auto update/download feature.
5. Move all apps that can be moved to external memory
Each smartphone has different ability and features. generally, you can move applications from internal storage to an external storage (sd card), almost all applications can be moved, except ROM app and the application that works in the background such as social media applications, chat, messenger, widgets, and similar applications.
6. Move all files photos, video, music, documents to external memory
Use internal storage only for applications and to store temporary files, I suggest to use the internal storage only when needed.
This method aims to keep your files not lost if at any time your smartphone encountered a problem and it must be hard reset.
Transferring files from the internal storage to an external memory card (sd card) aims to keep the internal more durable and give more space to the application and applications data.
External Memory (MMC / sd card) can be replaced and upgraded to a higher capacity, other than that you can take it off to be managed using a computer device.
7. Change the default file storage location apps to a memory card
Camera, web browser, and similar applications generally use internal storage as a default storage.
Example:
- Camera's photos saved in the DCIM folder of internal storage
- Downloaded files will be stored in the download folder of internal storage.
You can change the default file storage in each app settings menu.
Each application can have a different settings menu, please explore.
8. Compress photos, music, and video.
The Photo that generated by smartphones varied, the better the image quality, the image size will generally be greater. By compressing photos / mp3 / video files you can save a lot of space in storage.
Prior to compress the photos / music / videos make sure you are backing up the files to the PC.
Compress files are also useful if you like to share files or upload files to websites and social media websites. But, Compress photos is not recommended when the image is intended for purposes of photography / art that require a high-definition picture.
How to compress image files, music files, and video files vary depending on the application you use.
I usually use PC applications to compress the file because it is faster and the result is better, for those who like to compress files on android, you can download file compress application in google PlayStore. Just type in the search box "image compress" or "mp3 compress" or "video converter", there are a lot of options there, you can download as needed, choose 4+ star rating app and has the positive response from the user.
Thus the tips of the internal and external memory for android smartphone.
